Cardinal Brady stressed it was a "sacred and treasured" rite.
During his homily to worshippers at Knock shrine in County Mayo, on Sunday, the archbishop of Armagh and primate of all Ireland said: "Freedom to participate in worship and to enjoy the long-established rites of the church is so fundamental that any intrusion upon it is a challenge to the very basis of a free society" he said.

A few Catholics still insist Galileo was wrong - latimes.com
"I have no idea who these people are," said Brother Guy Consolmagno, curator of meteorites and spokesman for the Vatican Observatory. "Are they sincere, or is this a clever bit of theater?"
While it may seem quaint, harmless even, and of no account, they did manage to have a conference last year in Indiana: Galileo Was Wrong. The Church Was Right.

Mary and Buddha in Cellophane, and a New Tradition

| The Virgin, Buddha, silver sequin, conquistador |
I found this tucked away in the room of doom that I'm cleaning out. Glad I found it; I started a new tradition for myself last year, and am already working on it for this year. It started out with an altar during Dia de los Muertos , but then I extended it and ended up keeping the altar -- which I turned the whole mantel piece into -- through to Hanukkah-Christmas. This year, I'll have my altar up Oct 1st, and take it down when Hanukkah starts.

Last year, having the altar gave me a peaceful, connected feeling. I was surprised at that, I didn't expect to have the altar up for so long or to have it resonate so deeply with me. I'm looking forward to assembling the altar again this year.
On Brane Space: Pastor Mike Makes the Atheist Blogs!
Brothers and Sisters , I have been seriously considering forming a ( Christian ) grassroots type of organization to be named “The Christian National Registry of Atheists” or something similar . I mean , think about it . There are already National Registrys for convicted sex offenders , ex-convicts , terrorist cells , hate groups like the KKK , skinheads , radical Islamists , etc..
Frankly , I don’t see why anyone would oppose this idea – including the atheists themselves ( unless of course , they’re actually ashamed of their atheist religion , and would prefer to stay in the ‘closet.’ )

Awesome or Off-Putting: The Vatican Will Be Destroyed This Coming Wednesday | Hecklerspray
"When Vatican City was established by a treaty between blah blah blah and blah blah blah way back in 1929, well – they may as well have not even bothered. That’s because according to a small group of believers – the whole thing is going to topple to the ground this coming Wednesday.
We don’t really buy it though. After all, the thing has already withstood the rapture, why would it crumble down now?
Because the Virgin Mary said it would in a vision to three children, that’s why. "

piglipstick: Keeping The Sheep Squabbling About Religion
Not a Christian myself and anti-state/society installed appeasements to religions, I agree with the atheist's position -- almost. They are at least requesting that if the cross isn't removed, then have other religions represented. But I'm not an atheist either.
Nolocontendere makes good points. In speaking of religious symbols, be they cross or something else:
I so do despise all the false justifications to bring yet more division to the people with these cult symbols. Because that's all it is -symbolic red flags to yank emotional chains. This 'provide comfort' canard is the most sickening of all phrases. It's a denigrating, condescending insult that our overlords constantly use to insinuate that the empty crap they do is always of positive benefit to citizens, a la "Bush/Obama to visit flood ravaged county to provide comfort". It's a made up marketing phrase that pretends to read the minds of people to justify the power institutions have over them. "Pope provides comfort to millions on Easter Sunday".

Helter Skelter and Rosemary's Baby
I found this interesting, because, being from L.A. I remember with great clarity the day the murders happened (I was 15, living in Topanga Canyon) as well as the impact of Rosemary's Baby (at the time, that was very scary stuff!) But it doesn't stop there: Jimmy Page, Marianne Faithful, the Masons, Satan of course, Atlantis and so much more are part of the great Illuminati Satanist plan.Paul Drockton M.A.: Helter Skelter and Rosemary's Baby

Jesus is a Vine
KINSTON, N.C. (AP) — The Gospel of John quotes Jesus as saying "I am the true vine," and some folks in eastern North Carolina think they may have witnessed a literal demonstration.Holy Kudzu! Vine in NC Town Said to Resemble Jesus - NYTimes.com
A utility pole about a mile south of Kinston has attracted attention in the last week or so from people who say the kudzu clinging to it resembles the image of Jesus on the cross.

Philip Coppens: The Lourdes of America
The tiny town of Chimayo was founded in 1740 as a type of penal colony for Hispanic troublemakers. In Tewa, the word “tsimayo” means “good flaking stone”, and it was indeed an obsidian quarry used by the Native Americans that gave the town its name. But today, it is not its quarry that for which Chimayo is famous. Chimayo is a place of miracles – which is why it is known as the Lourdes of America, for the number of miracles that have been witnessed here. However, the origins of the miracles are not linked to any apparition of the Virgin Mary, but to a left-over of the Native American religion: the so-called sacred dirt. The earth itself is a tool or instrument of power.

St. Anthony's Religious Relic Stolen
LOS ANGELES -- A 780-year-old religious relic of St. Anthony of Padua has been stolen, and parishioners at a Southern California Catholic church are praying to the patron saint of lost items and missing persons for its speedy return.
The relic was stolen from inside a cabinet beside the altar at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Long Beach on Monday, the feast day of the church's namesake.
The Rev. Jose Magana said he decided to bring out the relic this year, on the 780th anniversary of the death of St. Anthony, because many of his parishioners have lost hope in the rough economy.
